WELCOME
Introduction:
The Island of Sri Lanka is located in the Indian Ocean with a surface area
of 25000 square miles with a total population of around 18 million. Of which
Muslims number around 1.5 million. The entire country is divided into 24 districts
for administrative purposes. Ampara district is the only district in the Island
where Muslims form the majority community. NEARLY QUARTER OF THE ENTIRE MUSLIM
POPULATION OF THE COUNTRY IS CONCENTRATED IN THIS DISTRICT.
Socio economic considerations:
Majority of the Muslim population of this district is poor. They engage in
fishing and paddy cultivation for a living. Since this district is located
almost 350 kms from the main city of Colombo
where almost all the welfare organizations are situated hardly any aid or welfare
facility reach this part of the country.
Religious consideration:
Islam is the dominant religion in this region. Unfortunately the so called
Muslims do not follow the true principles of Islam. They have their own tharikas
and different schools of thought different
from the accepted Schools of thought (Madhabs). Most of the youths lead lives
contrary to the true teachings of Islam.
