About Al-Hamiya
HISTORY
The Need for the Establishment
of an Arabic College;
There are
well oer hundred Arabic Colleges in the Island and two are situated
in the Ampaara district. Most Arabic College are conducted bya
set of peo0ple with vested interest to promote their thoughts
and idea and others are interested in propagating their way of
thinking. (Tharikas) or the views of their sects. As a result
students graduating from these Cooleges area taught only the
views of the founder of the College or the terachings of particular
sect.. As a result of lack of coordination and uniformity in
the curriculum in these Arabic Colleges students who pass out
from these Arabic Colleges have different interpretation of traditions
and Koran as taught by the teachers in these Institutions. Lay
people who depend on these Maoulavies who come out of these Institution
for religious guidance tend to have different views on the same
topic and this results in unnecessary quarrels and skirmishes
among the followers. Also these Arabic Colleges do not have sufficient
materials in their curriculum to equip the students to face the
challenges of the modern era. They lack knowledge in science,
mathematics and secular subjects. Also the students who pass
out from these institutions do not have a vocation for their
living. As a result they are unable to devote their time for
'Daawa work.
Formation Of Kalmuani Himyathul Islam Movement:
Having foreseen the dangers to which the present generation of youth is forced
into a few God fearing leading citizens of this area formed themselves into
an organization called the Kalmunai Himayathul Islam Movement with the sole
objective of raising the socio economic and religious standard of the Muslims
of this area.
Birth of Al-Hamiya Arabic College:
As its maiden venture Kalmunai Himayathul Islam Movement resolved to start
a modern Arabic College on a scientific basis with the sole bjective of producing
Da:wa workers or Ulemas of high standard who would be equipped to face changes
of the modern world and propagate the True DEEN of Allah in in its purest form
as was revealed to our prophet (Sal) and his teachings without fear or favour
for none other than Allah. This College by the name of Al-Hamiya Arabic College
came into being in humble way on the 7th of December 1979 with 30 students
on the Roll. This was housed in a temporary building belonging to the honorary
treasure Marhoom Al-Haj M.I.M. Cassim. An additional ten students were enrolled
the following year. Many students seeking admissions were turned away for want
of accommodation.
